jumbled

Life feels like a whole jumble of many different things lately. I've been finding it a little harder to sit down and share with you all, and I am hoping that the time I once found for it will return. Until then I do hope you can persevere with my sporadic efforts.

With so much time lately being spent on reading and researching different topics, all squeezed in between the daily demands of family life, my head has been in a bit of a jumble. Not that I mind the jumble. I've enjoyed learning about how to feed the family for less, and just what to feed them. I've enjoyed the research involved in bulk buying whole foods. I've enjoyed flicking through various crafty books, while knowing that it may be some time before I get around to trying any of the projects. I've enjoyed knitting the odd row on a new project.

I could have chosen any of these topics to talk over today. But the school holidays have left me a little tired, a little burnt out, and so I think we can leave all that for another day.

So while the wild wind howls outside, I think we will be bunkering down with another day spent indoors by the fire. Perhaps another cup of coffee may be just the thing.

See you all next week!

  1. Tania, have you read The Way of the Happy Woman? In it, the author really emphasises the importance of lying back and not doing much during winter. It's hard for mothers to adopt that mentality, considering there is always so much to do, but we too need to rest and restore and winter seems the perfect opportunity. Jumble or no jumble I adore your posts and your authenticity.

It's important to step back from blogging every now and then; it helps to reevaluate why you blog in the first place x

  2. What you've described Tania sounds like normal 'winter behaviour'...pottering, slowing down etc. Don't feel bad for not blogging all the time, it should happen when and if you feel like writing... I always enjoy your posts, it doesn't matter how long passes between them. It's funny Jodi mentioned that book above as I posted about it earlier this week and about how I'm trying to slow down and embrace the winter season... Enjoy your weekend x

  4. It's funny how much we look forward to the school holidays and then am reminded part way through how exhausting they can be with everyone home. Hopefully you get a good chance to have some restful days xo

  5. I've been feeling the effects of Winter too and have been slowing down on the home front. But after a few days just at home, I felt I should take the kids out. So we went and visited my sister today. Lucky she loves me, as she ended up playing with my two little ones while I had a nap on her bed for an hour! Sometimes we just have to listen to our bodies though and go with the flow. Don't fight the jumble, go with it, something wonderful will more than likely come out of it. xx

  6. We all feel jumbled at times, I think it goes with the territory of motherhood!

I am glad to know that I am not the only one who knits a row or two at a time. Sometimes reading blogs of women who seem to knit and craft nonstop make me feel a bit useless, but it makes me feel better to know that not everyone crafts at a rate of knots.

  7. I always love reading your posts, whether sporadic or frequent. It's important to take care of yourself so you can take care of your family. I like Jodi's comment of using winter as the perfect time to rest and restore. I have allowed myself to step back this winter, where I loved hanging at home and keeping plans to a minimum.

  8. Yes winter does seem to be the time to slow things down, not that there's much of the slowing on the home front, but we should where we can. I do e joy your blog very much, jumble and all..

  10. I just love your blog and so happy I recently discovered it. I've been enjoying reading past entries and can relate to so much of your daily rhythms-cooking, cleaning and crafting. I am in awe of your creative thrifting talents and repurposing them to beloved household items. I think we are neighbors. I live in the snowy mountains! In winter the days are shorter therefore less hours in the day to get things done even when you are following a simplier life. It takes time to cook from scratch, drying clothes, crafting and looking after family needs. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, you are doing an amazing job!

  15. I could have written this Post myself Tania. My posts have been sporadic too, despite there being the intention to write them more regularly.... Ditto what the other ladies have said, I always enjoy your thoughtful words and your lovely, uncontrived photos of your daily life. Mel x
