And on our little hike to the whaling site we happened upon this :
A little piece of hidden paradise. "Loch Garra" was built in 1896 and belonged to the Davidson's, renowned whaling family in Eden. In it's time it was a self sufficient little farm with orchards, vegetable gardens, rainwater tank and apparently, small livestock. Sometimes, they had a long time between whale catches and money would have been scarce.
The national park owns this cottage now and some replanting in the orchard has been done.
I found it all rather inspiring. You can learn so much from the past. It was a little like stepping back in time. A preserved and modest little piece of history.
